Samsung's SMX-C14 camcorder now beautifying stores in Korea

Samsung's SMX-C14, with its "ergonomic" design, touch of color, and Active Angle Lens, stole our hearts the moment we saw it. Learning that it only shoots 720 x 480/60i video was like a slap in the face, but we'd forgive it if only it graced us and our retailers with its presence. Sadly we're still left wanting, with the camcorder giving all its love and availability to lucky Koreans, who can pick one up today for the price of 399,000 won -- about $314. There it's apparently destined to "travel around to filming sex" according to the press release at the read link, which seems boastful, but surely it'll find time for those of us elsewhere in the world... eventually.

Samsung Blue Earth finally gets a hands-on treatment

We've been hearing about the Samsung Blue Earth -- an eco-phone, if you will -- since way back at MWC. Now CNET's finally gotten its hands on one at CommunicAsia in Singapore, and we have to say that we're pretty intrigued with what we're seeing. The back of the phone is covered with a solar panel, and Samsung says that one hour of sunning time for the mobile equals about 10 minutes of talk time. The handset also has a built-in pedometer to count steps for the Eco Walk carbon footprint app -- certainly something prospective buyers of the Blue Earth might be interested in. We still don't know full specs, pricing or availability for the phone, but we'll let you know when we do.

"Samsung Unpacked" event promises a new phone on June 15

It's not every day that you see a manufacturer include an FCC filing-esque shot of a phone's innards as an official teaser, but then again, there isn't much that's ordinary about the way that Samsung's promising to reveal its latest model. The "Samsung Unpacked" event kicks off in three cities around the globe -- London, Dubai, and Singapore -- on June 10, when winners of a competition will start tearing off layers of some magical box, finally reaching the core on the 15th at which point the new model will be revealed to an astonished world. If we were selected to start opening the box on the 10th, mark our words, we'd bust right through to the juicy stuff... which probably explains why we haven't been selected. Anyhow, pictured here is the rear of the set in x-ray vision, so we'd venture to guess it's a candybar or a QWERTY slider -- but maybe more importantly, what OS is it running?

Samsung ships $129 SPF-87H 8-inch digiframe / secondary monitor

Samsung's been dousing just about anything it can get its paws on with that 'Touch of Color' design scheme, and even the outfit's latest digiframe wasn't able to dodge the madness. The 8-inch SPF-87H, which was originally introduced to the world back in April, is now shipping to those scouting a multifaceted digital photo frame. Unlike traditional alternatives, this 0.91-inch thick frame can double as a secondary display (via USB), and the respectable 800 x 480 resolution panel ensures that you can fit more than just a weather widget on there. Other specs include 1GB of built-in storage, an SD expansion slot, 500:1 contrast ratio and a $129 price tag.

Samsung i7500 to be renamed Galaxy, released in France in early July

Speaking of Samsung touchscreen handsets, Bouygues Telecom's announced that they expect to ship the company's first Android handset -- the i7500 -- in early July, making it the first carrier to snag it. The French company will rebadge the device, calling it the Galaxy, which is certainly sexier than the numeric moniker. The quad-band GSM, tri-band 7.2Mbps HSDPA (900/1700/2100MHz) handset has a 3.2-inch, 320 x 480 pixel AMOLED touchscreen, WiFi, GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, 8GB of storage with MicroSD expansion for up to 32GB more. We're still expecting this bad boy -- which recently passed through the old FCC -- to make a possible T-Mobile debut this fall.

Samsung's N120 and N310 netbooks get reviewed, embraced

In the mood for a netbook, are we? We've recently been hepped to reviews of two of Sammy's latest, and thought you might wanna take a look. The 10.1-inch, 2.8-pound N120 "isn't the smallest or lightest," according to Liliputing, but it is thin, light, and it does have some of the "best sounding speakers" the reviewer has ever heard on such a beast (though your mileage may vary). Battery life is described as "excellent," and the touchpad? "A step up" from the NC10, apparently. On the other hand, you are going to pay a bit more (like, somewhere near $50 more) than a similarly kitted Eee PC 1000HE. And how about that N310? That depends -- is $479 too much for one of the most "attractive and compact" 10-inchers on the market? For $10 less, Laptop points out, you can get double the battery life in the form of the (admittedly rather rough 'round the edges) Samsung N110. But "if style is at the top of your mobile computing list," the the reviewer continues, this guy is worth a look.

Samsung's SCH-W760 features night vision cam for Blair Witch-style video calls

On the surface, the new SCH-W760 looks like a totally typical midrange Korean domestic market slider: 3 megapixel camera, DMB reception, Bluetooth, and a semi-notable 2.8-inch AMOLED display. You know, the usual. A closer look reveals one very interesting feature, though -- it features a front cam sensitive to infrared spectrum so that you can hold grayscale video calls in complete darkness. Beyond scaring the poo out of friends with your spooky, grainy, low-res visage and holding the occasional video conference from the confines of an unlit closet, we have absolutely no idea what practical value this offers -- but look, ridiculous features are what exotic new handsets are all about. Well played, Samsung. The W760 hasn't yet been officially announced, though it'll apparently be coming to SKT, so keep an eye peeled (and bring a flashlight).

Samsung announces 70 Series HD monitors and TV

We've seen plenty of Samsung LED HDTVs get pricing and availability in the last week or so, but that doesn't mean the party stops there. If you're in the market for a display for your PC, both the P2370 (23-inch) and P2070 (20-inch) sport a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms video response time. While the latter is definitely the runt of the litter, at 1600 x 900 screen res, the former rocks full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. And if that weren't enough, the P2370HD adds an HDTV tuner, integrated speakers with SRS TruSurround, and both HDMI and component inputs to its hi-def cousin for something as at home in the rec room as it is in the office. Did we fire up your imagination? Thought so.

Samsung's HMX-H106 Full HD camcorder with 64GB SSD takes first peek at retail

Here's one that might trigger an electrical pulse across the synapses, Samsung's HMX-H106. This tiny Full HD camcorder with a 64GB SSD tooling about its inanimate innards has been quietly preparing for May launch ever since its reveal back in January at CES. That's enough storage for an impressive 12 hours of 1920 x 1080 pixel video with further expansion by SD/SDHC card. Word has it that it launched this morning in its hometown Korea and is set for a May 22nd Stateside launch according Amazon.com. 900 bucks for a H.264 camcorder with an optical image stabilized Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens touting a 10x zoom and 37mm wide-angle focal length -- is that new baby worth it?

Samsung's slim BD-P4600 Blu-ray player gets reviewed

Samsung's new BD-P4600 Blu-ray player certainly impresses on first glance and, according to the folks at CNET, it has quite a bit more going for it than just good looks, even if it's not entirely without its share of faults. On the upside, the player and its HQV like image processing can apparently hold its own when it comes to the all-important question of image quality, and it packs no shortage of non-Blu-ray features as well, including Netflix and Pandora support, a bundled WiFi USB dongle, 1GB of on-board memory, and support for media streaming off a connected PC. Unfortunately, that protruding USB dongle does cramp the style of the player somewhat and, while the PC streaming is certainly welcome, it can apparently be a bit of a chore to get set up properly. Of course, there's also the small matter of the $500 price tag, although CNET says Samsung's cheaper BD-P3600 model should provide an adequate, if slightly less slim substitute for those looking for some more bang for the buck.

Samsung's 850 PAVV plasma teases the 1-inch thick mark

The plasma industry may be teetering on the edge of certain doom (okay, so maybe that's exaggerating it... a little), but Samsung's still pushing the envelope. Over in South Korea, the company just outed its latest PDPs, the 850 PAVV lineup. Aside from being 40 percent more power efficient, 20 percent lighter and 120 percent more seductive than the prior generation, the new 50- and 58-inch sets also boast DLNA support, a USB 2.0 socket, DivX compatibility and a rather striking stand. The real kicker? The 29 millimeter depth, which equates to just over one inch thick for those who abhor the metric system. There's no word on when these beauties will hit the streets, but we're guessing Panasonic will be keenly interested in knowing.

Samsung's I7500 Android phone shreds in first hands-on video

We know what you're thinking: you'd love to see some video of Samsung's very first Android device -- the I7500 -- but you don't want to watch it unless the soundtrack for the clip is foreign hair metal. Well, we aim to please at Engadget, so without further ado, we present this totally bitchin' flick of the phone in action, replete with the rockingest shred-fest this side of... wherever this band is from. Enjoy!

Samsung's M7 500GB laptop drive can take a licking

While we've seen plenty of 500GB hard disks for laptops but Samsung's SpinPoint M7 is the first with the guts to call itself "rugged." The dual-platter, 2.5-inch drive spins at 5400rpm and features a 400G operational shock tolerance -- that's about 50G better than the claimed tolerances of other 500GB drives and 75G better than Sammy's own Spinpoint M6. Expect to see the M7 ship sometime this month.

Samsung's 10.1-inch N120 netbook now on sale

Samsung's long-awaited (okay, so we made that part up) N120 netbook has finally transitioned from "might ship someday, maybe" to "oh, I'm definitely shipping." Consumers interested in the 10.1-inch, 2.8 pound netbook can surf over now to Amazon and order one up in black or white for the not-totally-tantalizing price of $465.99. If you've forgotten what all that buys you, here's a rundown, and feel free to say it with us in unison: 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP Home, a 1,024 x 600 resolution panel, 6-cell battery, a 3-in-1 multicard reader, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and an Ethernet jack for good measure. Oh, and there's a "2.1-channel" sound system, for whatever that's worth.

sHoUt.......!
